Jennifer Tilly was born Jennifer E. Chan in Harbor City, Los Angeles, California and started her acting career in her teenage years through a theatre program at Stephens College in Missouri.

Tilly had small roles in TV shows and movies beginning in 1983 and also appeared as Gary’s girlfriend on “the Gary Shandling Show” which aired on HBO in the mid 1980’s.

Tilly’s breakthrough film role was as a singing waitress in The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) in a part that was specially written for her. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a hopelessly bad actress in Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway (1994).

Even though Tilly has gained some additional popularity in recent years for providing voice-over work for TV series and is a semi-regular cast member on Family Guy, voicing the Griffin family’s neighbour, she is know famous for being the first Hollywood celebrity to win a WSOP bracelet.

On June 27, 2005, Tilly won a World Series of Poker bracelet and $158,625 in the Ladies’ No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em event, outlasting 600 other players. In September of the same year, Tilly also won the third World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament held at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles.

Tilly has also played in the Poker Royale series on the Game Show Network (GSN), the third season of Poker Superstars Invitational on Fox Sports News (FSN), and the 2006 season of Celebrity Poker Showdown on Bravo.

Although it wasn’t Tilly’s original intention to become such a high-profile player in the poker world she recently stated in a television interview that at this point in her life she is more interested in pursuing poker than acting, which is quite understandable considering that Tilly’s total tournament winnings exceed $340,000. Nothing bad for someone who became involved in poker playing regular home game with friends!

After developing her poker playing skills, Tilly began playing in competitive tournaments. The encouragement came from her boyfriend, professional poker player Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, who she met at the WPT Invitational tournament at the Commerce Casino. After winning the 2005 WSOP, Tilly told one of the reporters that her boyfriend Laak was responsible for teaching her everything she knows about poker and for helping her work out her game.

Look ahead to see Jennifer around the poker rooms a lot more in the future. In one of her recent interviews she said, “I’m hooked on poker. I’m not going to stop playing until I lose all my money.”

Benjamin Geza Affleck was born on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California, USA but was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Ben always wanted to be an actor and his first acting experience was for a Burger King commercial, when he was on the PBS mini-series “The Voyage of the Mimi” (1984). It was also at that age when Ben met his lifetime friend and fellow actor, Matt Damon. Together, as you all may already know, they decided to write their own script, where they could have completely autonomy over the project. So, after finishing the script, it was friend Kevin Smith who took it to the head of Miramax who bought the script giving Ben and Matt the control they wanted and, in December of 1997, Good Will Hunting (1997) was released, making the two unknown actors very famous.

After that, everything started to happen for Ben and his career only grew and grew. But we are here to talk about poker and you will be surprised to know that it was not only Ben’s movies that were bombing, his success at the poker table was also about to explode.

Ben has always been an enthusiast poker fan, his first shot into the poker scene was in 2004 when he won the Commerce Casino’s California Stake Poker Championship, earning a $356,400 prize. At the final table he knocked out poker professional player Stan Goldstein to prevail.

Ben Affleck often credits poker pro Annie Duke for his success and also being able to play with the best players in the world made the difference. To date, Affleck hasn’t won any other major tournaments, but has played in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) the last four years. Good luck Ben!

The Texas Hold ‘em game is normally played using small and big blind bets – forced bets by two players. Antes (forced contributions by all players) may be used in addition to blinds, particularly in later stages of tournament play.

A dealer button is used to represent the player in the dealer position; the dealer button rotates clockwise after each hand, changing the position of the dealer and blinds.

The small blind is posted by the player to the left of the dealer and is usually equal to half of the big blind. The big blind, posted by the player to the left of the small blind, is equal to the minimum bet. In tournament poker, the blind/ante structure periodically increases as the tournament progresses. (In some cases, the small blind is some other fraction of a small bet, e.g. $10 is a common small blind when the big blind is $15. The double-blind structure described above is a commonly used and more recent adoption.)

When only two players remain, special ‘head-to-head’ or ‘heads up’ rules are enforced and the blinds are posted differently. In this case, the person with the dealer button posts the small blind, while his/her opponent places the big blind. The dealer acts first before the flop. After the flop, the dealer acts last for the remainder of the hand.

The three most common variations of Texas Hold ‘em are limit hold ‘em, no-limit hold ‘em and pot-limit hold ‘em. Limit hold ‘em has historically been the most popular form of hold ‘em found in casino live action games in the United States.

In limit hold ‘em, bets and raises during the first two rounds of betting (pre-flop and flop) must be equal to the big blind; this amount is called the small bet. In the next two rounds of betting (turn and river), bets and raises must be equal to twice the big blind; this amount is called the big bet.

No-limit hold ‘em is the form most commonly found in televised tournament poker and is the game played in the main event of the World Series of Poker. In no-limit hold ‘em, players may bet or raise any amount over the minimum raise up to all of the chips the player has at the table (called an all-in bet). If someone wishes to re-raise, they must raise at least the amount of the previous raise. For example, if the big blind is $2 and there is a bet of $6 to a total of $8, a raise must be at least $6 more for a total of $14. If a raise or re-raise is all-in and does not equal the size of the previous raise, the initial raiser can not re-raise again. This only matters of course if there was a call before the re-raise.

In pot-limit hold ‘em, the maximum raise is the current size of the pot.

Your objective: The objective of Texas Holdem is to make the best five-card hand out of seven cards… the two you are dealt face down and the five community cards dealt face up on the table.

Step by step

Every player is dealt two cards, face down. These are called hole or pocket cards.

The action, or the first move, falls on the player to the left of the big blind. She can either call the bet, raise it, or fold. Betting continues around the table, clockwise.

After the betting is completed, three cards are dealt face up in the center of the table, which is referred to as the board. The first three cards in Texas Hold’em are called the flop. These cards are “community cards” meaning everyone can (and will) use them in combination with their own hole cards to make the best hand.

From the flop on, betting begins with the player to the dealer’s left, who can check or bet.

A fourth card is dealt face up onto the board. This is called fourth street or the turn card.

Another round of betting.

The final card is dealt face up. This card is also called fifth street or the river.

A final round of betting occurs. The remaining players show their cards and the person who can make the best five-card hand by combining their pocket cards with the cards on the board wins.

The most important thing to bear in mind when beginning to learn this game is that you get 7 cards to choose from to make your final 5 card hand, and you don’t have to use any particular ones of the 7 you’re dealt, just any 5 that give you the highest hand.

Don’t forget that Seven card stud is played with two downcards and one upcard dealt before the first betting round, followed by three more upcards (with a betting round after each card). After the last downcard is dealt, there is a final round of betting. The best five-card poker hand wins the pot.

In all fixed-limit games, the smaller bet is wagered on the first two betting rounds, and the larger bet is wagered after the betting rounds on the fifth, sixth, and seventh cards. If there is an open pair on the fourth card, any player has the option of making the smaller or larger bet. Deliberately changing the order of your upcards in a stud game is inappropriate because it unfairly misleads the other players.

Your objective: The best five-card poker hand, out of seven cards, wins the pot.

Step by step:

All players put in an ante.

Starting to his/her left, the dealer deals each player two cards down (called hole or pocket cards) and one card face-up.

Everyone looks at their hole cards.

The player with the lowest card showing face-up has to put in a small bet called a “bring in.” Then betting continues to that low-card player’s left. Each player can call, raise, or fold their cards.

After the betting is completed, another card is dealt to each player face-up. This card is also known as “fourth street” or “the turn.

Another round of betting takes place, starting now with the player with the highest cards showing. From fourth street on, the player with the highest cards showing will continue to be the first to bet.

After betting is complete, the fifth card (fifth street or the river) is dealt face-up. More betting happens, and then the sixth card is dealt face up. More betting.

The 7th and final card is dealt face-down to the players remaining in the hand. A final round of betting occurs.

The players show their hands at the showdown. The player who can make the best five-card hand from the seven they were dealt, wins.

That’s what you need:

* 52-Card Deck
* Chips
* 2-7 Players
